A Sioux Falls man, 34-year-old Daniel Fawcett ended up in Union County Jail Tuesday, August 22 after a more than 100-mile pursuit through 4 counties and 3 states included assistance from 8 law enforcement agencies.

A release from Dakota County Sheriff’s Office says that the vehicle driven by Fawcett was first spotted by a Dakota County Deputy Westbound on Highway 20 after it was reported leaving Walmart after a shoplifting incident in South Sioux City. Deputies spotted it near Mile Marker 426. The vehicle took off from deputies on a gravel road, then, Highway 35 and South on Highway 77 into Thurston County. Once into Thurston County, Winnebago BIA took over the pursuit which continued South to H Avenue and onto gravel roads back to Winnebago where it then went North again on Highway 77 to 35.

Once back into Dakota County Fawcett continued West on Highway 35 to 110th, North to Highway 20 where his vehicle made contact with Dakota County Deputies vehicle numerous times. Once back to Highway 77 the suspect went North through South Sioux City and into Iowa where Dakota County Deputies continued to pursue North on Interstate 29 into South Dakota. North Sioux City Police took over the pursuit once into South Dakota where the van lost a tire near Mile Maker 5.

Fawcett continued North on Interstate 29 with South Dakota State Patrol and Union County Sheriff joining the chase until he struck spike strips laid by South Dakota State Patrol near Mile Marker 38 a couple miles later the vehicle crossed the median and Southbound lanes before coming to a stop in the ditch.

A warrant in Dakota County is being requested for Daniel Fawcett, 34 for Felony operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, Felony criminal attempt of assault on Law Enforcement by motor vehicle, willful reckless driving, resisting arrest, no operator’s license and stop sign violations.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by South Sioux City Police, Winnebago BIA, Omaha Tribal Law Enforcement Services, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, North Sioux City Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol.
