A release from Chief Charles Chinn of the Emerson Police Department says Joe Saufley, 22 was taken into custody on Sunday Morning after police arrived at an address on the 1100 Block of Logan Street while responding to a 911 call where a man said he tried to kill his wife.
The release says that Saufley's been charged with first-degree assault and the victim was transported to Pender Hosptial and then transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha her injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening.
The Emerson Police Department was assisted at the scene by Dixon County Sheriff's Office, Thurston County Sheriff's Office, Winnebago Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Emerson Fire and Rescue.

Police and Rescue responded to 1100 Logan Street in Emerson Nebraska about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, May 7th after a man called 911 and said he killed his wife. Police were on scene throughout the night. The Victim was transported to UNMC in Omaha and the suspect to Mercy in Sioux City and then Dakota County Jail. No confirmation from Police on names, status, or charges. Scanner Traffic Indicated the victim survived the attack.
