Twice a year the Sioux City Police Departments works with the Drug Enforcement Administration for a Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On Saturday, April 29th officers were at locations around Siouxland for their Bi-Annual Drug Take Back Day. The purpose of the event is to give people a chance to dispose of Prescription Drugs safely at no cost. In addition to giving Officers the chance to interact with citizens, the event gets thousands of prescriptions disposed of in a safe and responsible way.
Throwing away and flushing prescription drugs can have potentially harmful effects on landfills, groundwater, and wastewater. In addition, it helps prevent prescription drug abuse. We stopped into Fareway on War Eagle drive, one of many drop off locations in Siouxland where Sergeant Ivener and Sergeant Kellen were able to fill two boxes with unneeded prescription drugs.
Those that weren’t able to make the event are encouraged to bring in theirs to the Sioux City Police Station anytime. A drop box is available in the Police Station Lobby 24 hours a day. Another event will be held again in six months.
