Speeding truck claims the lives of two four others transported to hospital

Sioux City, IA – On July 21, 2024, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of W 3rd and Rebecca Streets, claiming two lives and injuring several others. Sioux City Police Department and Sioux City Fire/Rescue swiftly responded to the scene following reports of the collision.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2000 Chevrolet truck, traveling eastbound on W 3rd Street at a high rate of speed, collided with a 2008 Volkswagen crossing the intersection northbound on Rebecca Street.

The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the Volkswagen was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Two other passengers in the Volkswagen were also taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A passenger in the truck was treated for minor injuries.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. At this time, the names of the individuals involved are not being released.
