About 3:30 am Saturday morning multiple agencies in Union County responded to Mile Marker 8 Northbound on Interstate 29 just outside of Jefferson South Dakota for reports of a two-vehicle crash including a Midwest Medical Transport Ambulance and a Tanker Semi Truck and Trailer.
Initial reports indicate there was a fatality believed to be someone in the ambulance. Others injured said to be non-life-threatening at least one was transported to the hospital by EMS.
Agencies from North Sioux City, Jefferson and Elkpoint along with Union County Sheriff's Office, South Dakota State Patrol, and South Dakota Department of Transportation responded to the crash. Stockton Towing and Custom Sales removed the vehicles. Interstate 29 Northbound was shutdown at Exit 4 in North Sioux City, traffic was detoured on Highway 105 to Jefferson where they were allowed back on the Interstate.
The crash scene was cleared and the Interstate reopened about 11:30 am Saturday.
