Sioux City Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at a vacant home in the 1500 block of Jones Street around 7:19 PM Saturday night the 31st after a neighbor reported smoke.

Firefighters arrived to find Sioux City Police already on scene. Officers advised a transient was inside the home and had started a fire. After police removed the individual, crews entered the two-story house and quickly knocked down a small fire in the living room.

Investigators later determined this was not the first fire set inside the vacant structure, uncovering evidence of multiple prior fires.

The transient was arrested and charged with Reckless Use of Fire and taken to the Woodbury County Jail.
