Update: Structure Fire at Morningside Country Estates Apartments
Sioux City, IA – February 8, 2025 – A devastating fire at Morningside Country Estates Apartments, located at 1331 S. Maple Street, has left dozens of residents displaced after flames tore through Building F on the evening of Tuesday, February 4.
Fire crews from Sioux City Fire Rescue arrived at the scene around 4:40 p.m., where they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the three-story apartment building. Over 28 firefighters and eight fire apparatus were deployed to battle the blaze, which caused extensive fire, smoke, and water damage. The building has been red-tagged by city officials, rendering it uninhabitable.
Out of the 23 apartments, 22 were occupied by approximately 40 residents, who are now receiving aid from the American Red Cross and Woodbury County Emergency Services. Fortunately, no residents were injured, but a dog was found deceased inside the building.
Two firefighters sustained minor steam burns, and fire crews remained on-site until Thursday morning to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The fire is believed to have started in a vacant apartment on the main floor, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about this fire is encouraged to contact Sioux City Fire Rescue at 712-279-6377. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
