The final medical f...
End of an Era for AirMed 4 in Siouxland The final medical flight for AirMed 4 ended back at base at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday. The aircraft was then moved to the hangar, officially touching down at 6:18 p.m. This marks the conclusion of AirMed 4’s service in Siouxland. At midnight, the purchase agreement between MercyOne Medical Center Sioux City and UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Sioux City goes into effect. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the pilots and flight crew of AirMed 4 for their years of dedication to patients across the region and for supporting our local public safety departments. Your service has truly made a difference in countless lives. For a little history: in 2019, Mercy Air Care (MAC) transitioned to Wings Air Rescue Wings1, bringing MercyOne AirMed 4 to Sioux City. In late 2020, AirMed 4 received a new aircraft, and in 2022, Wings Air Rescue signed an agreement with UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Sioux City. As of Midnight MercyOne Sioux City is now Unity Point St Lukes Sioux City - Downtown The broader story of this healthcare transition will be covered by other local media outlets, as it goes beyond the scope of my usual public safety coverage.
