Man arrested after leading police on 2 state pursuit after suspected of shoplifting in South Sioux

South Sioux City Police were responding to a shoplifting call Friday, July 6th about 6:15 pm when the suspect left in a vehicle. When police attempted to stop it the driver took off at a high rate of speed. A Trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol and a Deputy from Dakota County Sheriff's Office attempted to slow the vehicle as it was headed toward Iowa on 129 at speed in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Nebraska State Patrol says the driver 43-year-old Larry Lee Johnson rammed the back of the Troopers vehicle before it went into Iowa. Once in Iowa Johnson took the I29 South Exit from 129 and then exited at the Signing Hills Boulevard Exit where he lost control of the truck he was driving, a 2006 Chevrolet and went off-road. In an attempt to continue fleeing he again ramed the Troopers vehicle and a Dakota County Deputy vehicle. Johnson was taken into custody after his vehicle became stuck. He was transported by Iowa State Patrol to the Hospital to be cleared and then to jail where he's facing numerous charges in Iowa and Nebraska.

Larry Lee Johnson was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on charges of Aggravated Eluding, Assault on Officer, Drivers License Suspended, Fail to Obey Traffic Control Device, Improper Use of Lane, Fail to Surrender License, Failure to Have Control and No Vehicle Insurance. He faces charges in Nebraska of Attempted Assault on Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, and Driving Under Suspension.
